Rabbi gives pope a kippah with his name in Hebrew
(ANSA) – Vatican City, October 23 – Argentine rabbi Mario Rojzman on Wednesday gave Pope Francis a white hand-woven kippah with his name embroidered in Spanish and Hebrew.
A kippah is skullcap observant Jewish men wear to show respect for God.
”The pope said every Christian has Hebrew roots. I would add that in every religious man lives some of Francis’ spirit”, the rabbi, who has worked in Miami for the past 11 years, told Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romano in an interview. ”Pope Francis is radically changing our vision of interfaith relations”, added Rojzman, who spent 11 years in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires in close contact with then-Archbishop Bergoglio.
”He is tearing down walls and building bridges between people”.
The kippah is also embroidered with the Ten Commandments and two lions.
The latter are ”to give him strength to continue his mission”, the rabbi concluded.
